Spring Flowers-- roses, tulips (most PreK'ers had never seen one before)  and daisies--were illustated here using black markers and crayons. This was a fun assignment because the children could see themselves how much they had improved in their drawing skills and felt very proud. But it should be understood that it is usually a developmental issue in terms of when children acquire fine motor skills and does not necessarily reflect on where individuals will be with their art in two or three years.

Bird Drawings:As the PreK'ers gain better fine motor skills, I began to show them ways to draw birds using shapes they are already able to draw well. They were very proud of their work and they surprised themselves.

PreK'ers made nesting birds to celebrate spring. They used paper plates to glue colorful yarn nesting material, created clay eggs which they painted bright colors, and next they drew patterns on origami paper, and worked with their teacher on folding paper birds to sit in the nests.
