Flowers in Pastel:The students in 3rd grade were offered an optional assignment of drawing flowers in soft pastels from life. We gathered fallen plumeria which we placed on the table for inspiration. Students worked from these, plus their own memories or imaginations.

My Happy Place:   Students in the 3rd grade were introduced to landscape drawing in this assignment, which we combined with a lesson on how body language and facial expressions can help to tell a story. The assignment was to create a picture of a place of contentment.   We took digital photos of students which were included in their 12" x 18" colored pencil drawings.

Weaving: this assignment was extremely popular. Students who were not as advanced with their drawing skills could shine in this project.  What is especially interesting is how the 3rd graders could express themselves and their humor in the finished weavings.
